DesignJet5k

After many years of service I ran into trouble with a DesignJet 5000. Below you'll find information on 'how to' solve problems. It may help others (myself included).

  • Model: C6090A (and probably other DesignJet 5k types like C6090AR, C6090V, C6091A, C6091AR, C6091V and C6095 series too)

Ordering parts

071024 Google on HP partserver and you'll never find it (HP, wake up). So go directly to http://partsurfer.hp.com/ . Now somehow HP sites are often slow and after plenty of time outs it's tempting to Google on (in this case) part http://www.google.com/search?q=Q1251-60320 and buy it somewhere else. HP really screwed me with four standard hard drives for two DesignJets in two years but in this case trying to buy directly from HP results in a reasonable price which is a good thing for the perception of HP on consumer level.

The files

If you want instructions only then please use the PDF file. If you would to improve the document then modify the ODT file (you probably want to do that with OpenOffice.org) and ask for permission to publish here or mail it to WiebeVanDerWorp (yes, it is a wiki, but spammers ruined the open character).

Replacing cutter assembly

Belt problems, replacing

  • Error: "switch power off and check printhead path(2)"
  • Solution: Replace belt
  • Why? Because people at the HP fora suggest it and there are lots of rubber particles in the printer.

Remark: Take this opportunity to check the condition of other parts as well. 071027 Weekend is a nice time to do the replacement. disassembling is hard without pictures so I learned to go the right model at the part server site (in this case http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main?sel_flg=modinfo&HP_model=C6090A) and choose "View a parts diagram:" in order to remove left and right covers, etc.. Ok? Not at all, so I made pictures of assembling the printer. Now that you have part II the start is easy by following the picture stream bottom up.
